| Henderson's student population is culturally diverse, representing over 30 countries and at least 50 different languages. Our student population reflects a 37% white, 33% black, 18% hispanic, 9% asian, and 3% mutli-racial. 54% of our teachers hold masters degrees or higher. |

Henderson Middle School was named in Atlanta Magazine January 2010 edition as DeKalb County's Best Middle School. |

Terese Alen, our principal, was named the 2008 DeKalb County Advocate/ Administrator by the DeKalb School Counselors Association. |

Francine Peterson, 7th Grade Language Arts, was chosen by the HMS faculty to be the HMS Teacher of the Year for 2009-2010. Brian Jones, 6th grade Social Studies, has been chosen as Teacher of the Year for the 2010-2011 school year. |

HMS Reading Bowl Team has won several top places in the DeKalb County Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl and went on to the Georgia Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl Western Division in past competitions. |

Works from Henderson students were showcased throughout the community in places such as the High Museum and the Discovery Channel. HMS has had state winners in Reflections, Technology Fair, Social Studies and Science Fair. In 2009, the Duke University Talent Identification Program recognized 3 of our students for GRand Recognition and 2 others for State Recognition. |

HMS has had excellent special programs such Career and Henderson History Day, Black History, International Night, Drama productions, Orchestra concerts, Band concerts, and Chorus musicals. Our students have represented us with excellence throughout the county in the following competitions: Technology Fair, Reflections, Math League Competition Academic Bowl, Geography Bee, Spelling Bee. Other opportunities such as Football, Basketball, Track, Orchestra, Band, Chorus, Bridge, Chess, Social Studies Fair,Science Fair, Young Georgia Author's Competition, Math, Robotics, Reading Bowl, Science Olympiad, SECME, Builder’s Club, Kiwanis, Wyldlife, NJHS and Beta Club are available to our students. |

Both the Men and the Women Track Teams were first place in the county breaking several school records and a few county records as well. |
