| Shadow Rock Elementary |
| Shadow Rock Elementary School opened in 1992 and is located in east central Dekalb County near Stone Mountain, from which it derives its name. The building is a modern architectural design and is equipped with highly sophisticated technology. Each room is equipped with a call system and is wired for telephone and computer networks. Shadow Rock also houses a GSAMS laboratory for distance learning classes. |
| Shadow Rock has gifted classes for grades Kindergarten through five, a High Achiever program for children in grades three through five and the Exploratory program for students in grade five. Also available for the children are an after-school arts-based program, SciQuest Summer Science Camp and an annual Family Reading Night. Students at Shadow Rock are strongly encouraged to support the school uniform policy adopted by the PTA in 1997 and reaffirmed by parents during the 2001 school year. |
Shadow Rock has an environment conducive to learning and has the support of parents, faculty, and community. The Shadow Rock staff is committed to delivering challenging educational experiences that will enable our students to achieve academically and to become productive members of society.
Our goals are: |
To improve communication skills through increased reading comprehension achievement |
To improve analytical and critical thinking skills through increased math achievement |
To improve human relations by reducing student suspensions and parent and teacher complaints. (We will make this happen by increasing student achievement, recognizing student accomplishments, implementing Character Education and promoting positive community relationships.) |
The Shadow Rock facility is unique because it houses two separate schools; the first floor of the building is occupied by the Shadow Rock Psycho-Education Center, and Shadow Rock Elementary School occupies the second floor. Although each school operates independently, the two schools share cafeteria space, physical education fields, the library/media center, and an outdoor classroom. |
Shadow Rock has an outdoor classroom which features a nature trail maintained by our 4-H students. |
Shadow Rock has a locally operated After School Program. |
