Students applying for a Magnet program must meet the 3.0(B) grade point average requirement. In addition, the High Achievers Magnet Programs require test scores from a standardized test. The high school magnet programs also have prerequisite course requirements. Each of DeKalb's fourteen Magnet programs has specific entrance and continuation criteria describe on their brochure description page. Parental involvement is strongly encouraged.
Any DeKalb County student who meets the required eligibility criteria may apply to the magnet program in which he or she is interested.
  • Private/home-schooled applicants must attach a copy of the current grade level, first semester report card and a copy of the student's current grade level standardized test scores to the application.
  • Private/home-schooled applicants must return the Magnet programs application to their local DeKalb County Public school or the Magnet Programs Office located at 3770 North Decatur Road, Decatur, GA 30032.
Six Magnet programs (Wadsworth Elementary and Kittredge Elementary, Chamblee Middle and Chapel Hill Middle and Southwest DeKalb High and Chamblee Charter High Schools) require applicants' standardized test scores.
If the number of applicants exceeds the projected enrollment for any Magnet program, a lottery (random drawing) will be conducted.
